Afghanistan: The Taliban suicide bombers kill police - BBC News

April 14, 2011, last updated at 09: 19 GMT Paktia map at least three Afghan policemen were killed when suicide bombers attacked a police training centre in the East of the country, officials say.

Police said two bombers also died in the raid on the base of the province of Paktia, where dozens of men were trained.

Two suicide attacks more took place in Kabul and Kandahar, said police. The Taliban claimed all three attacks.

Several police officers were injured in the incident in Kabul. In Kandahar, three people, two of them women, were injured.

Wave of attacks

Paktia, close to lawless tribal areas of Pakistan, said a stronghold for several militant groups.

According to police, four men with explosives linked to their body tried to enter the training of the police composed of Paktia and were questioned by security forces.

The first attacker jump himself off the base, killing three policemen and wounding three other who were guarding the entrance, said police.

A heavy exchange of fire followed in which killed the second attacker. Police said that two other attackers managed to escape, reports of Bilal Sarwary of the BBC in Kabul.

In the attack on Kabul, a truck loaded with explosives to jump out of the Office of the Governor of district. The attacker was killed and several policemen were injured, officials said.

In the third incident, police killed a suspected militant who tried to enter a police station in the South of the city of Kandahar. Officials, said that the man was wearing an explosive belt.

The attacks come a week after that the militant Taliban killed six security agents in an attack on a police near Kandahar training centre. Three armed men also died.

Tens of thousands of Afghan police and troops are trained to take control of comprehensive security, once NATO leaves.

Afghan forces are often targeted by the Taliban and their allies, who want to overthrow the Government, supported by the Western of Hamid Karzai in Kabul.
