Commander Cambodia says Thai troops use of cluster bombs, toxic fumes - Xinhua

(PHNOM PENH, April 23, Xinhua) - the Thai troops have used bombs and toxic fumes in the clashes on Saturday morning on the disputed border area in the temple of Ta my Thom and Ta Krabey temple in the province of Oddar Meanchey, a Cambodian military commander said Saturday.

"They (Thai troops) were not only from toxic fumes on our troops, but they also use of cluster bombs in the attack on the Cambodian troops and the surrounding villages," Suos Deputy Sothea, Commander of the artillery unit, said media from the fields of battle Saturday.

The fighting started at 6: 15 a.m. and lasted until 10 h 25, he said.

"There is no rumbling explosions of fire at 10: 25 pm, but we do not know if the end of fighting or not, depends on the Thai side," he said.

He said that some Cambodian soldiers had been injured in clashes on Saturday morning, but refused to disclose the exact figure.

It is the second straight day of military clashes between Cambodian troops and Thai over the border regions is contested, after the Friday clashes has made at least 6 victims of troops from both sides and more than a dozen injured and forced thousands of people on both sides to flee the House.

The most recent military confrontation reappeared just more than two months after the deadly clash from 4 to 7 February at the border area disputed next to the temple of Preah Vihear, World Heritage Site.
